Vintage Halloween Oil Painting Witch Black Cat Full Moon Folk Art Signed
One thing that stands out to the collector of vintage Halloweeniana is the dearth of oil paintings with Halloween subject matter. I wasn't sure if this one is oil or acrylics. And then the artist wrote to me on here after finding their work online and informed me that it was indeed an oil painting.
One so rarely encounters Halloween themed paintings, probably because collectors are not likely to part with them once acquired. Here is a wonderful Autumn full moon with baleful orange glow showing us that the archetypal witch with her black hat is going about her nightly rounds. Of course she has her Boon companion, her black cat, along for the ride! Here is a lovely oblong presentation and it has been signed by the artist. I believe it is dated 2013.
The painting is on some kind of board. There is some distress to the frame but I I know a lot of collectors of folk art love to leave that the way it is because of that sense of age and the aesthetic. Should you want to touch it up it should be easy since it is a matte black.
